Gargoylism with cardiovascular involvement in two brothers.

چکیده
The term " Gargoyle" was introduced by Ellis, Sheldon, and Capon in 1936. The condition was first recognized by Thomson in 1900, but his original cases were not reported until later (Henderson and Ellis, 1940). Although about 200 cases have been reported, there are few detailed studies of the cardiovascular system. Necropsy material is rare, and has been reviewed by Strauss (1948) and Lindsay (1950). Since then other necropsies have been reported by Jervis (1950), Magee (1950), Henderson et al. (1952), Millman et al. (1952), Schwarz (1952), and Smith et al. (1952), making a total of 32 in all. The following observations were made on two brothers, both with gargoylism, who were studied during life and found to have cardiovascular involvement. One died and the post-mortem findings are reported.

Gargoylism in a twin brother and sister.
Gargoylism has been the subject of several comprehensive reviews within recent years. The liability of siblings to be affected is established. There are a number of recorded instances of gargoylism affecting one of twins but involvement of both children of a twin delivery is rare. Nonne (1925) described twin sisters both of whom were affected. His publication contains no reference to the appear...
متن کاملThe cardiovascular system in gargoylism.
Of interest to cardiologists is a large group of rare systemic diseases in which involvement of the cardiovascular system may produce clinical evidence of cardiovascular disease, or may lead to cardiac failure (Weiss, 1939). An attempt has been made to outline the basic clinical, laboratory and pathological features of a few of these processes (Saphir, 1942;* Weiss et al., 1943; Lindsay, 1946)....

متن کاملPiebaldism and Vitiligo in Two Brothers
Piebaldism is an autosomal dominant uncommon (<1 in 20,000) congenital pigmentary disorder. Depigmented patches are present since birth. They usually remain unchanged throughout life. Vitiligo is its closest differential diagnosis. We report a unique family in which these two dissimilar depigmentations, i.e. piebaldism and vitiligo (with nevus depigmentosus), were noted in two brothers. T...
